Team Sports

In North America there are over forty professional sports leagues that field teams in the following sports: baseball, basketball, football, hockey, lacrosse, softball, soccer, and tennis. Many of these sports, such as baseball, football, hockey, and softball date from the 1800s. Others, such as basketball, soccer (in north America), and team tennis, have more recent origins. Combined, at the professional level these sports filed hundreds of teams. At the amateur and collegiate levels the number of teams is almost too numerous to count.
