Major League Soccer - MLS Cup Championships
The championship of Major League Soccer (MLS) is known as the MLS Cup. The MLS Cup trophy is called the Alan I. Rothenberg Trophy. The first MLS Cup was competed for in 1996.
To reach the MLS Cup finals, teams compete in a conference Semifinal Series, and then advance to the Conference Championships. The top four teams in each conference take part in the Conference Semifinals. The Conference Semifinals games pit the Conference first and fourth seed against each other, and the Conference second and third seed against each other. The Conference Championship game matches up the Conference Semifinals winners against each other. The Eastern and Western Conference Champions then compete in the MLS Cup Finals.
