Massachusetts Skiing and Snowboarding
Perhaps not as well known as its northern cousins, Massachusetts has many nice ski areas in the Berkshires and surprisingly close to Boston. While most of the areas tend to be smaller than those found in the New England states to the North, Massachusetts ski areas offer a nice diversity of skiing for novice to expert skiers.
Massachusetts has 13 Alpine ski resorts, all of which have snowmaking on 80% or more of their trails. Massachusetts also has 10 Nordic areas that offer nearly 350 Km of trails. One of Massachusetts mountains is ranked among the top 20 in the northeast - Jiminy Peak (#11). Yet two other Massachusetts ski areas were ranked in the top 10 for family programs. Wachusett Mountain, was ranked as the number 2 mountain in North America for family programs and Jiminy Peak was ranked number 5 ("2008 Readers Survey", Ski Magazine, October, 2007).
