Lacrosse

Lacrosse was invented by Native Americans. The sport was given its name by early French observers.

Lacrosse is a team sport played by ten players for men, and twelve players for women. For men, a lacrosse game consists of four quarters whose length may vary depending on the level of play or the league. Women's lacrosse consists of two 25 minutes halves. The object of the game is to use a netted stick to pass and catch a hard rubber ball, and ultimately to score on an opponent's goal.

For men, outdoor field lacrosse is played on a field that is 110 yards long by 60 yards wide (100m x 54m) by two teams of ten players. The 5 foot by 6 fool goals which are similar to hockey goals are set into an 18 foot diameter "crease" at each end of the field. An outdoor lacrosse game consists of 4 15-minute quarters.

There are also indoor versions of lacrosse - box lacrosse and indoor lacrosse. Both are played indoors typically on an ice hockey rink with the ice removed or covered.
