East Coast Hockey League (ECHL)
The East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) was founded in 1988 with teams from the defunct Atlantic Coast Hockey League and All-American Hockey League. The ECHL is a AA professional hockey league. ECHL teams have NHL and AHL affiliations.
The ECHL is divided into two conferences - the American Conference and the National Conference. The American Conference consists of two divisions, the North with 7 teams, and the South with 8 teams. The National conference is also divided into two divisions, the Pacific with 5 teams, and the West with 5 teams. There are a total of 25 teams in the ECHL.
East Coast Hockey League Playoffs
For 2007, the ECHL has settled upon the following format for the Kelly Cup Playoffs:
- In the National Conference, the two division winners (seeded 1st and 2nd) and the next six-best teams (seeded 3rd through 8th in order of points) will make the playoffs. These teams face off in the quarter finals. The winners move on to the conference semifinals and the conference finals.
- In the American Conference, the division winner for each division will make the playoffs (each seeded 1st) along with the next four best teams in the division (seeded 2nd through 5th). The 4th seed and the 5th seed in each division will play each other in Division Quarterfinals. The Quarterfinals winners will advance to play the division leaders, and the 2nd and 3rd seeds will play each other in the Division Semifinals. The winners advance on to the Division finals with the Division Finals winners advancing for the Conference Finals.
