The Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL) is a professional indoor football league. The league was founded in 2006 as the Great Lakes Indoor Football League. The name was changed to the CIFL for the 2007 season and to recognize expansion beyond the Great Lakes region to the east coast and northeast.
CIFL games are played on an indoor football field that is 50 yards long by 25 yards wide. The end zones must be a minimum of 5 yards in depth, but can have rounded corners depending on the configuration of the venue. CIFL games feature 7 players on offense, and 7 players on defense. There is no punting in CIFL football.
CIFL scoring is as follows:
CIFL games consist of four fifteen minute quarters. The clock only stops in the last minute of the 2nd and 4th quarters for out of bound plays and incomplete passes. The play clock is 25 seconds.
