And now the World Cup is down to the final two. Two teams that have never won the World Cup, one of which (Spain) has never been to the finals. To date the best finish of either team has been:
- Netherlands – Lost in the finals twice in 1974 and 1978. Also finished 4th in 1998.
- Spain – Best finish 4th place in 1950.
There are two things that have made this edition of the World Cup so enjoyable. Many teams made it much further than expected. The second is the level of interest still in the United States even though the home town team exited some time ago.
