He’s not worth it!

I love hot stove baseball…unlimited possiblities, unlimited fantasies. Free agent galore. Some good, some great, some a gamble.

But there’s an interesting attitude that has become pervasive in fandom when it comes to free agents. The mantra of “he’s not worth it.”

Jason Bay wants $15 million a year for 5 years, ‘he’s not worth it.’ Matt Holiday wants $20 million a year, ‘he’s not worth it.’ John Lackey at $15 million a year, “he’s not worth it.”

Let me let you in on a little secret, these guys PLAY a game for a living. Most of them would play for meal money…none of them are worth it. There’s no path to world peace, there’s no cure for cancer…they play baseball.

They’re not worth it. They’re not worth anywhere near it. That all said, why do fans care? Let’s not spend the money on Matt Holliday because why again?

It’s not my money, it’s not your money, it’s the owners who pay. And now if the lower payroll you’re not going to see lower ticket prices. It just doesn’t work that way.

So none of these guess are worth the big free agency payday coming there way. But why do we care?

We shouldn’t.

Let’s sign Lackey, Beltre, Holliday and Bay…it works for the Yankees. If those guys sign huge deals, good for them.

It’s not my money, I don’t care!
