When a hot team runs into a hot pitcher the pitcher usually comes out on top. That is exactly what happened last night in World Series Game 1. On the line was the Colorado Rockies 7 game postseason winning streak tieing the record for consecutive postseason wins. The Red Sox had ideas of their own setting the record for the first team to score 10 or more runs in 3 consecutive postseason games as they handed the ROX their first 2007 playoff loss. In their last 3 games the Red Sox have scored 12, 11, and 13 runs, outscoring their opponents 36 to 5!
The hot pitcher, Josh Beckett, was again dominant. He went 7 innings giving up only 1 run, 3 hits, 1 walk, and 9 strikeouts. Josh is now a perfect 4-0 in the 2007 postseason with a 1.20 ERA. Backing up Beckett’s performance was pretty much the whole Red Sox lineup. The real story for the Red Sox this postseason is that they started winning again when the entire lineup started to contribute hits and runs. That continued last night as the Sox pounded out 17 hits in route to their 13 runs. Dustin Pedroia had his second game in a row with a home run (he only had 10 all season long).
Now it is one game down and three to go for me to get my free couch (see: The Red Sox Have to Win the World Series Because I Want My Couch for Free).
Game 2 in Boston tonight at 8:00 PM on FOX.
