Minor League Baseball (MiLB) - Double-A Baseball
There are three Double-A baseball leagues in North America, the Eastern League, the Southern League, and the Texas League. Following is an overview of the leagues and a listing of the teams in each league.
Eastern League of Minor League Baseball
Originally known as the New York-Pennsylvania League, the Eastern League was founded in 1923. It originally fielded six teams. The leagues has fielded 51 teams over the years since 1923 in 12 different states and 2 Canadian Provinces. Currently the league consists of two 6 team divisions with teams in 8 different states.
The Eastern League plays a 142 game schedule that starts in early April and ends in early September. The Eastern League has several major events during the baseball season, including:
- The Eastern League All-Star Game
- The Eastern League Playoffs and Championship
The Eastern League currently has a two-round playoff format. The top two teams from each division make the playoffs. The best-of-5 game first round crowns divisions champions. The best-of-5 game Eastern League Championship Series crowns the Eastern League champion.

Southern League of Minor League Baseball
The first Southern League existed from 1885 to 1899. In 1901 the Southern Association was formed and it played until 1961. In 1904 the South Atlantic League was formed. It was elevated to AA status in 1963. The league was renamed the Southern League in 1964. All "official" records for theSouthern League date from 1964.
Famous major leaguers to have played in the South Atlantic League / Southern League include: Hank Aaron, Vida Blue, Bert Campaneris, Ty Cobb, Rollie Fingers, Bob Gibson, Goose Goslin, Joe Jackson, Reggie Jackson, Ferguson Jenkins Harmon Killebrew,Tony La Russa, Phil Niekro, Frank Robinson, Enos Slaughter, Willie Stargell, and Hoyt Wilhelm.

Texas League of Minor League Baseball
The Texas League was originally founded in 1888. Through its history it has operated from 1888-1890, 1892, 1895-1899, 1902-1942, 1946-present.
The Texas League plays a 140 game schedule that starts in early April and ends in early September. The Texas League has several major events during the baseball season, including:
- The Texas League All-Star Game
- The Texas League Playoffs and Championship
The Texas League has a two-round playoff format. Division winners from each half meet in the playoffs. They play best-of-5 game series to crown division champions. The winners play in the best-of-5 game Texas League Championship Series to crown the Texas League champion.
