Midwest League
The Midwest League was established in 1947 as the Illinois State League. It changed its name to the Mississippi-Ohio Valley (MOV) in 1949 with the addition of a team from Kentucky. It finally became known as the Midwest League in 1956.
The Midwest League is currently comprised of 14 teams organized into two divisions (MID Eastern and MID Western) each with 7 teams. Teams play a 140 game season. The Midwest League also has an All-Star game at the mid-point of the season.
The Midwest League has a three-round playoff system at the end of the regular season. The the winners of each half of the season and one or two runners-ups for each division (8 teams) make the first round and play best of three games series. 4 teams advance to round two and again play best of three game series. The two remaining teams advance to round 3, the championship round, and compete in a best of five game championship series.

South Atlantic League
While there have been many South Atlantic Leagues operating off and on since 1904, the current league owes its origin to the Western Carolinas League, Which was founded in 1948. It changed its name to the South Atlantic League in 1980.
The South Atlantic League currently consists of 16 teams organized into two divisions (SAL Northern and SAL Southern) each with 7 teams. Teams play a 140 game split-season (first half/second half) schedule. The South Atlantic League also has an All-Star game at the mid-point of the season.
The South Atlantic League has a two-round playoff structure. The first and second half divisional champions for each division meet in round 1 in a best of 3 game series. Winners advance to the championship which is a best of 7 game series.
