Baseball - Minor League Baseball (MiLB) - Class A Advanced

California League

The California League was established in 1941. It suspended operations during World War II (1942-1945), resuming again in 1946. Over its history, many famous major leaguers played in the league, including: George Brett, Don Drysdal, Dennis Eckersley, Rollie Fingers, Ken Griffey Jr, Reggie Jackson, Pedro Martinez, Mark McGwire, and Kirby Puckett.

The California League is currently comprised of 10 teams organized into two divisions (North and South) each with 5 teams. Teams play a 140 game season. The California League also has an All-Star game at the mid-point of the season.

The division winners for both halves of the season (4 teams total) make the two-round playoffs. The first round is two best of three game series. The winners of the first round advance to the League Championship Series which is a best of five game series.

Carolina League

The Carolina League was founded in 1945. The league has ranged in size from 4 to 12 teams and many famous major leaguers played in the league, including: Johnny Bench, Wade Boggs, Rod Carew, Curt Flood, Joe Morgan, Willie McCovey, Earl Weaver, and Carl Yastrzemski.

The Carolina League is currently comprised of 8 teams organized into two divisions (Northern and Southern) each with 4 teams. Teams play a 140 game season. The Carolina League also has an All-Star game at the mid-point of the season.

The division winners for both halves of the season (4 teams total) make the two-round playoffs. The first round is two best of three game series. The winners of the first round advance to the League Championship Series which is a best of five game series. The league champion wins the Mills Cup.

Florida State League

The Florida State League was originally founded in 1919. It folded in 1928 due to economic conditions. It resumed play again in 1936 and has been in operation ever since, except during World War II (1942-1945). Since its inception, over 1,200 players from the Florida State League have gone on to play in the Major Leagues. Some famous players who played in the league include: Johnny Bench, Rod Carew, Rollie Fingers, Ferguson Jenkins, Al Lopez, Stan Musial, Jim Palmer, and Early Wynn.

The Florida State League is currently comprised of 12 teams organized into two divisions (East and West) each with 6 teams. All teams play a 140 game season. The Florida State League also has an All-Star game at the mid-point of the season.

The division winners for both halves of the season (4 teams total) make the two-round playoffs. If a team wins the division in both halves of the season than a wild-card team makes the playoffs. The first round is two best of three game series. The winners of the first round advance to the League Championship Series which is a best of five game series. The league champion wins the Watson Spoelstra Florida State League Championship Trophy.
