Canadian-American Association of Professional Baseball (CANAM)
The Can-Am League has had three incarnations. Its first incarnation ran from 1936 to 1942. Even though the league folded, many of the teams continued to play through the war years. Incarnation number 2 started after World War II in 1946 and ran until 1951. The current Canadian American Association of Professional Baseball, or Can-Am League, is a reconstitution of the Northeast league and was formed in 2004. It played its first season in 2005.
The Can-Am league plays a 91 game season that lasts from late may through early September. Playoffs are held in early to mid-September.
The Can-Am League's playoffs pit the first half winner, the second half winner, and the two teams with the next best winning percentages against each other in a two-round playoff. If one team wins both the first and second half, then the third best winning percentage team qualifies as the fourth team in the playoffs.
There are currently (as of the 2007 season), 10 teams in the Can-Am League throughout Eastern Canada and the Northeastern United States.
